Fertility clinic reveals record success rates

April 3, 2009

Southampton-based Wessex Fertility at the Freya Centre has recorded its highest ever pregnancy annual success rates for 2008, reporting significantly higher rates than the national average across the UK.

The Fertility Clinic recorded an average success rate for clinical pregnancies in the under 35s at 40% for those receiving ICSI treatment and 38% for those undergoing IVF in the same age group. This reflects an impressive improvement of 15% above last year’s results and is significantly higher than the HFEA 2006 live birth rate of 31%.

The results come as the clinic celebrates its first year under the clinical direction of its all-female consultant team, led by obstetrician and gynaecologists Dr. Sue Ingamells and Dr. Chantal Simonis.

Dr Sue Ingamells commented: “The expansion and development of the team from 14 to 32 over the last year and the introduction of new techniques has meant that pregnancy rates have continually improved and are now excellent.”

“Our high pregnancy rate reflects the experience and quality of the Embryology Team and the dedication and skills of all our staff. None of these successes would be possible without the commitment and expertise of the whole team,” added Dr. Chantal Simonis.

It is estimated that one in seven couples have difficulty in conceiving - approximately 3.5 million people. Although the majority of these people will become pregnant naturally given time, a significant minority will not. With this in mind it is not surprising that there is an increase in the number of people that undergo fertility treatment.

At the Freya Centre, staff are dedicated and committed to doing all they can in helping patients achieve their goal of having a baby and it is because of this dedication that the success rates have vastly improved.
