Millennium milestone – 1000th IVF baby celebrates first birthday
March 30, 2008
Bright and beautiful, Ruby Rose Thomson who celebrates her first birthday today is the 1000th baby to be born as a result of IVF treatment by Southampton- based Wessex Fertility. A healthy baby girl, Ruby weighed in at 8lb 4oz when she was born on at 10.48pm on Friday 30th March 2007 in the Princess Anne hospital, Southampton.
Proud Mum and Dad Sarah and James Thomson said: “Ruby is our little miracle. When we watch her crawling around, playing with her toys and making a real racket, we just can’t believe that we actually have her. Even now that she is one, it still feels like a dream come true.
“We are so thankful to Wessex Fertility for giving us our little girl and making us a family. Staff at the clinic were great, very supportive and caring throughout the whole process which made things that little bit easier for us.”
Ruby’s favourite toy is her baby karaoke machine, which sums up her bubbly personality. She loves to dance and sing and even checks out her own dance moves in the mirrors on her karaoke set! Crawling since the age of just seven months, Sarah and James think it likely Ruby will walk before long and will be building her repertoire of moves.
Dr. Chantal Simonis, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Wessex Fertility, commented: “We decided to look at how many babies we had helped bring into this world and discovered that it was already over 1,000. We worked out that Ruby was our ‘Millenium Baby’ and just couldn’t resist helping the family celebrate this wonderful milestone.”
“It’s lovely to see Ruby growing fast and enjoying life so fully. At the end of the day, that is exactly what our work is all about, helping couples to become families,” said Dr Sue Ingamells, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at the clinic.
