Hampshire GPs gen up on fertility and women’s health as IVF numbers rise
September, 2009
Faced with an increasing demand for fertility treatment in the UK, more than 75 GPs from across the Hampshire region are coming together next week to keep themselves abreast of the latest developments in IVF techniques and gynaecology. GPs will debate issues such as fertility and cancer and new advances in IVF and keyhole surgery.
Wessex Fertility at the Freya Centre and Gynaechoice have joined forces this year to organise the GP study day being held at The Rose Bowl Conference Centre in Southampton next Monday 28th September.
The programme for the day includes subjects on Cancer and its implications for fertility, Menopause, Fibroids, Endometriosis and the treatment of Ovarian Cysts.
Speakers on the day are all consultant specialists from the Southampton based centres of Wessex Fertility and Gynaechoice. They will provide GPs with educational presentations and Q&A sessions on each subject.
Dr. Chantal Simonis, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Wessex Fertility at the Freya Centre, commented: “We are delighted by the number of GPs that have signed up for the GP study day and have given up their precious time to attend this event. It is so important that we can advise and update our GPs on the latest treatments and advances in fertility, but also it is a great opportunity for GPs to discuss and ask questions on the more difficult topics we need to address, such as cancer and how this affects fertility”.
“We are very keen to address the facts around the effect of cancer treatments on fertility. It is Breast Cancer awareness month next month, so we would like to highlight the importance of understanding the issues and complications that arise for women who would like to have children but have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer,” added Dr. Sue Ingamells, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Wessex Fertility.
Mr Adam Moors, Consultant Gynaecologist at Gynaechoice commented. “As women and GPs become ever more educated in the advances in gynaecological treatments, the experts at Gynaechoice are delighted to continue their series of educational seminars at the Rose Bowl; this event being held in conjunction with Wessex Fertility”.
